Introducing the Danner Bull Run Lux

Timeless Design w/ Modern Comfort

Danner designed their first boot back in 1932. They've been handcrafting high-quality products that last ever since. At first glance, the handsome new Bull Run Lux emulates a classic Danner work boot with its stitchdown construction and rugged nubuck leather. Much like that very first boot. Slip your feet inside, however, and you’ll quickly realize that the modern updates make for a comfortable and stylish boot that looks equally as good stomping on concrete, dirt, or the gas pedal.

BULL RUN LUX - SUNSTONE

BULL RUN LUX - BURRO BROWN

BULL RUN LUX - BURRO BROWN

USA-made and inspired by Danner’s famous Bull Run work boot, the Bull Run Lux is constructed with naturally milled nubuck leather that is extremely durable, yet soft and flexible. And miraculously, it only seems to look better with age. The Danner Wedge outsole provides cushioning, lightweight support and superior traction underneath your feet. This boot is comfortable the moment you lace it up. Adding to that comfort, the Bull Run Lux is engineered to accommodate the anatomy of the foot and to allow enough room for a soft and supportive footbed. This new Danner boot is available now and retails for $210. Choose from the Sunstone (left) or Burro Brown (right) colorways.

WHO RIDES THE WORLD

RISER introduces a project to support awareness for female riders.

Hi, this is Nora. I am a Co-Founder of RISER and would like to introduce an initiative to you that we will launch next week. Ride, share and show your support for female riders as a united community!

RISER as a tool and platform, since the launch in 2016, has always been somewhat of a pivot point, between the riders and the rest of the world. What we have noticed in these three years is that, even though there are a LOT of female riders all around the world, projects, clubs, events and all that, female riders still are underrepresented in the communication about motorcycling.

SO WE THOUGHT: WHO RIDES THE WORLD?
Female riders are a strong part of the motorcycle community and we want to support their movement all around the world – and we wanted to create a possibility to show how many there are, how strong they are, how strong the associations are that they have set up and to show to the world in a global project as many female riders as possible and support the strength of their movement!
The Women’s International Motorcycle Association, the Women Riders World Relay and female riders all around the globe are on board with us and will support and will engage to spread the message.

190410_Riser_Blog_WRTW_1.jpg

BE PART OF IT: Ride, share and show your support for female riders as a united community!

  • Starting with April 15th until May 15th we are asking ALL OF THE COMMUNITY to do Pack Rides, group rides on RISER using the Pack Ride feature.

  • Show your support for the female riders movement by sharing the afterwards saved trips: Put them on your Social Media with a nice call to action to everyone “Support female riders with a Pack Ride”, with the Hashtag #WhoRidesTheWorld and by tagging RISER.

GET 2 MONTHS RISER PRO FOR FREE:
We will offer free access to 2 months of RISER PRO to everyone participating: You will find a link in every Blogpost that will be published until May 15th as well as on our Social Media. Use it to get 2 months of RISER PRO for free (set up a normal account first).

    WIN A WEEKEND RIDE OUT!

  • 1ST PRIZE: Amongst all Pack Rides done between April 15th and May 15th, the Pack Ride with the most kilometers will win (max. people: 5) a weekend rideout from Vienna through the scenic routes of the Austrian Alps on Moto Guzzi bikes (bikes provided by Moto Guzzi  / FABER Austria). The weekend ride out is offered by RISER.

  • 2ND PRIZE: Amongst all of you who will participate, do Pack Rides and share their trips on the Social Media (with the Hashtags and tags mentioned), we will give away 5 pieces of SENA 30 k communication devices in a lottery (offered with friendly support by SENA)

  • 3RD PRIZE:
Amongst all female participants who do Pack Rides and share their trips on the Social Media, RISER will give away 1 Veldt Helmet (Veldt Mark 1 Collection) in a raffle (offered with friendly support by Veldt)

ONE MORE THING: WHY RISER
Now, you may already know that RISER is a small Start-Up based in Vienna. We are not a big company BUT we are part of the community and on our app and platform there are riders all around the world who connect with each other, no matter what gender. We think that only with equality we can  really be a community.
And that’s why we are doing this: For a month, we will be the amplifier that is putting all efforts on all our channels into showing to the world “who rides the world” hoping that you will support female riders with us!

We hope that you will all like this project very much, that many of you will participate and that as many of the female riders community as possible will become more visible to all of you around the globe!

We hope that you’re hooked now, that you will contribute and join this movement!

Stay driven by adventure!

Yours,
Nora and the RISER Team

P.S.: If you’re a female rider, have a club or an event and would like to become a voice of this project, get in touch with us, we’d love to welcome you on board!

24 Hours on a Dyno Raises $18,500 for MS

Longhaulpaul sets another wacky world record by riding his 2018 Yamaha Star Venture on a Dynamometer 24 hours without stopping or getting off.

GARDNER, Mass. - April 16, 2019 - PRLog -- Longhaulpaul sets his third world record for Multiple Sclerosis and didn't even need his GPS!
At noon on March 29th, Paul Pelland started the 113 cubic inch V-twin engine on his 2018 Yamaha Star Venture motorcycle, quickly got it up to freeway speeds and rode it for 24 hours and 1674 miles without getting off. No rest breaks, no gas or bathroom stops. The entire event was broadcast live on Facebook. It was a telethon style fundraiser, with nonstop live entertainment the entire 24 hours in exchange for donations. $3600 in prizes were raffled off, Paul had wardrobe changes, got a facial and a straight razor shave. He shared his own diagnosis, symptoms and explained MS and the work being done by the charity. He also tried to play guitar and sing, took the bird box challenge and ate a smorgasbord of interesting bugs all while riding at freeway speeds on a Dyno, which is sort of like a treadmill for motorcycles.

Thousands tuned in at different times from all over the globe, egged him on and dozens of people stopped by Rob's Dyno Service in Gardner Massachusetts over the course of the event to wish him luck. The last few final minutes raised over $2000, because who wouldn't want to see Paul eat two large Zebra Tarantulas?

Nonstop to Nowhere was Longhaulpaul's third world record. Thanks to hundreds of donors, it was a tremendous success raising awareness and $18,500 for the charity MS Views and News which provides educational programs for people living with Multiple Sclerosis.

After being diagnosed with MS himself, Paul began a million mile journey raising awareness, funds and a bit of hell as he tours the country on his Yamaha. After 6 years, he has ridden 350,000 miles, raised $150K for charity and has shared his inspirational story with over 250 audiences across the country.
Donations for this event are still being collected at
https://www.longhaulpaul.com/nonstop-to-nowhere/donate-live.
Paul also sponsors the MS5000 and MS1000 Saddlesore challenges; both for MS charities as well. http://www.longhaulpaul.com/fundraisers

This event would not have happened without support from Rob Swartz of Rob's Dyno, Co-Host Rob Nye and Technical Director Justin Pelland.
The fundraiser was made possible by the following sponsors:
Robs Dyno Service Gardner MA, Twisted Throttle, Gardner Lyons Club, Valley Motorsports, Huhtala Oil and Propane, Boucher Funeral Home, HJC Helmets, Aerostich, Nelson Rigg, Spectro Oil, Tucker V Twin, Autozone, Rocket Moto, Tanguay Jewelers, Electrical Connection, Bill Mayer Saddles, RPM Cycles Dover NH, Phoenix Flaming Hot Heated Gear, Iron Butt Association, Bostonian Barbershop, City Barbershop Gardner MA and Valley View Farms.

100% of donations went to the charity MS Views and News, Inc.

FLY Racing Releases Formula Helmet Testing Data

FLY Racing is proud to announce the release of the Formula Helmet test data conducted by two separate test facilities

Boise, ID – FLY Racing is proud to announce the release of the Formula Helmet test data conducted by two separate test facilities: RHEON LABS, a materials technology business servicing the sports equipment industry, who has developed high energy absorbing materials with advanced testing methods for helmets to replicate real world scenarios and SATRA Technology, a third-party leading independent research and testing organization based out of the United Kingdom certified in ECE testing.

FLY Racing spent a considerable amount of time, money, and resources to validate and benchmark the Formula against the top nine, “best of the best” helmets on the motocross market ranging from $500-$700+. To ensure that the Formula stacked up fairly against competitors, FLY Racing purchased six identical premium helmets from each brand for a total of 60 helmets at an estimated retail value of $30,000.

30 helmets were sent to RHEON LABS to record rotational and linear impacts. Each of the 10 helmet models was hit in three different locations and these tests were then repeated on three identical helmets of each model. A total of 90 individual impacts were recorded. An additional 30 helmets were sent to SATRA Technology, where three helmets of each model were tested according to ECE standards with impacts in both crown and front-side locations, totaling 60 individual impacts.

All impacts were recorded, plotted, charted, and analyzed by scientists from RHEON LABS and SATRA to ensure that the data was not only accurate, but also unbiased.

FLY Racing took time to review the information and organized it for dealers, customers, and the industry. FLY Racing has chosen not to name the other competitors explicitly in the test.

The purpose of testing is to learn and understand how to improve helmet safety, to know where FLY Racing stands among the best technologies that exist today and what can be done in the future to further evolve impact mitigation.

DIY ETHOS: FLAT OUT FRIDAY

VITAE / JEREMY PRACH

Words By Sophia Branen

Imagery Matt Milanowski / Sophia Branen

In the 1980's punk rock scene, wreaking havoc was a prerequisite characteristic.  Jeremy Prach and his band mates had a slogan before each show, “The crowd is the enemy.” As an entertainer, the goal was to perform with a high level of chaos, while captivating the audience. His chaos reigned throughout the U.S., from New York City to LA with a few boarder crossings into Canada, opening for Green Day, Jimmie Eat World, And They Will Know Us by the Trail of the Dead. This was pre-internet, booking every tour over the phone or by writing letters. Jeremy says that “This DIY ethos is part of me”.

FOF_17.jpg

Jeremy claims his history with motorcycling began with stock car racing. In 1996, on his 22nd  birthday, his wife surprised him with a ticket to a drag race on a dirt track. He was immediately taken-in and eventually bought a drag car for $1,200, which launched his addiction to racing. Winning features fed that addiction until his absence at family events caught up to him. Jeremy decided to take a break from such a fast-paced lifestyle and start a family of his own, which gave him a son, Loyal.

On Loyal's first day of kindergarten, Jeremy's long time friend, Dave Kilkenny, brought over a 50cc. Loyal jumped right on and they've been hooked as a family ever since. When the 50 was in need of repair, Jeremy would swing by Moto-Scoot and troubleshoot with owner and professional motorcycle racer, Andy Mauk. Jeremy was pleased with Andy's views on capitalism – ‘Do what you love, if it makes a few bucks, great. If not, well that’s ok too.

FOF_00_LSD*.jpg

As Loyal’s amateur career in racing ramped up, Jeremy admits that all too often they got into a routine of arguing while prepping for a heat. Any parent who has a child involved in motorcycle racing can conceivably agree that there is this intense amount of stress involved, often the parent’s stress rivals the child’s. Jeremy’s insight led him to take a step back, recognizing that his roll as a father could be more beneficial by helping out with flagging, scorekeeping and promotion. He began to take notice of the big picture and wrote notes on how he might make the events better. Over the years his confidence and motivation to start his own race event grew.

Paralleling that time, founders of Milwaukee's Mama Tried Motorcycle Show, Warren Heir Jr. and Scott Johnson were organizing their third year of the show. At a local diner with Scott, Jeremy proposed his idea of hosting an indoor flat track event in an arena the Friday before the weekend show. Jeremy emphasizes that “Your anticipation that it's Friday and 'I'm gonna party' is more fun than the party -- so Flat Out Friday encapsulates that Mama Tried is coming and Friday night we’re gonna party.” And just like that, Jeremy and Scott agreed on a partnership

FOF_04*.jpg

At $600 a load of dirt with an estimated 280 truck loads, a dirt track inside of an arena didn't seem reasonable. After doing some research, Jeremy ran across the history of racing bikes and go-karts on soda pop. As a light layer of syrup is sprayed over concrete, a gummy surface is formed, allowing a rubber tire to grip a tighter turn and reach maximum speed. Alas, the plan to place over 300 motorcycles around a 120 foot loop (inside cone to inside cone) of Dr. Pepper was born!

FOF_23.jpg

Since the idea of Flat out Friday first came about in 2014, Jeremy has held strong to his philosophy of never wanting a race to be pedestrian… old… or 'moldy'. Recognizing that in the world of entertainment your time is limited, he wants to maintain the feeling that anything can happen at any time. During rider's meetings, he keeps his rules loose and emphasizes that Flat Out Friday is about experiencing the unexpected-together, it’s about building the community. Each heat is a 'living and breathing organism' circulating the track in unison.

Now managing 13 classes, ranging from Four Stroke Brakeless, to Boonie, to Open Hooligan, Jeremy focuses in on his goal to create chaos. As a racer, he hurls you into the center of an arena where the space is limited and the energy is overwhelmingly numbing. By throwing in 13 other acts that stir the crowd and riders who are notorious for never-ending burnouts, it's safe to say that Jeremy has succeeded at reaching his goal.

He claims that “It's easy to play loud. To throw a firebomb, if you will. That's easy chaos. But to captivate the audience, to scare them – that's what I'm going for. To use Flat Out Friday as a vehicle to do that, I guess seems natural.”
